Fetus de Milo

I first discovered Fetus de Milo like the day before I was leaving to do a photo tour of San Francisco. I was going over a list of possible models from the area and one of them had directed me to an art site she was on which also featured Fetus. I saw just one picture of Fetus and knew she would be perfect for us. I contacted her and within about a day we were shooting together. Forrest Black and I shot her for Gothic Sluts, Barely Evil, SWAG, The Folsom Street Fair Guide, and the cover of Gothic Beauty. All the hottest cover girls are Blue Blood girls.

An accomplished painter and visual artist, Fetus speaks of her work saying, “My artwork is very much influenced by modern lowbrow art, in particular the work of Coop. I also am very drawn to earlier works by the Pre-Raphaelites, art nouveau movement, and artists such as Bosch, Van Dyke, and Bougoureau. But my biggest influences throughout my life have always been pop culture references, usually with dark themes. Elvira, Divine, Nancy Spungen and Siouxsie Sioux all seemed ravishingly beautiful to me, even at a very young age. I have always been a huge horror fan; I have an obsessive fascination with movies like Carrie, Silence of the Lambs and Rosemary’s Baby. As I grew older, I became more aware of underground, cult, and independent cinema and music, and integrated it more and more into my artwork and lifestyle. My more recent obsessions and daily inspirations include Kembra Pfahler, Vampira (portrayed by the gorgeous Maila Nurmi), The Simpsons, John Krickfalusi (the creator of Ren and Stimpy), Russ Meyer’s films, Dyanne Thorne, nunsploitation cinema, serial killers, and the Bride of Frankenstein (as portrayed by Elsa Lanchester). Both in my artwork and modeling I try my darndest not to take myself too seriously. I don’t consider myself a role model or a sex symbol or a super star, and I prefer not to squish myself into any one particular category. My humor has always had a very biting and sarcastic side to it, and I plan to keep it that way.”

One of the things I like best about working with Fetus, besides her relaxed demeanor, is that she brings an artist’s eye to everything she does. She is the sort of artistic soul who brings her twisted elegant vision to areas of life as varied as the placement of her facial piercings to the styling of her creepy romantic Sandbox and Pickle comics.
